23 Things

14 Things To Tame

Check out  14 Things to Tame, a terrific new Learning 2.0 project for teachers from Sara Kelley-Mudie.  They’ll be covering a lot of ground over the next 15 weeks! You can be sure I’ll be ‘stealing’ stuff from Sara for some of my own projects.  (Thanks Sara!) Lucky teachers at The Forman School in Litchfield CT to have Sara putting this together.

(Still catching up – this is for Day 9 of #blog12daysxmas!)

Cool Tools for School

Cool Tools for School

Cool Tools for School

We kicked off another Learning 2.0 program today! This one is called Cool Tools for School and was the brainchild of  J’aime Pfeiffer (Capital Region BOCES) and her colleagues at other nearby BOCES School Library Systems:   Jen Henry (CVES BOCES), Deb Booth (HFM BOCES), Dee Portzer (Questar III), Paige Jaeger (WSWHE BOCES).

We all started talking about this last summer, but finally got around to setting it in motion just 2 weeks ago! Despite a quick start, we’re taking a slow approach with this program. Instead of a new lesson/thing being posted every week, we’ll offer a new topic every 3 weeks. This should give everybody time to digest the topic and have time to do more exploring. We’ll see! It will be a fun experiment.

We have just shy of 100 people signed up. And at the end of day 1, 7 people had already completed the first lesson. We’re off to a fast start for our leisurely program!

School Library Tech Camp – March 2010

Last weekend, 30+ school librarians & classroom teachers gathered at the Hotel Thayer at West Point for 2 days of Tech Camp! After a bit of a rocky start due to problems with the hotel’s wireless network (which the ever resourceful Danielle handily solved!), we were off to the races.

Tech camp is a two day immersion in technology tools and and an opportunity to explore ideas for integrating technology into the curriculum.  The sessions offer school librarians (and classroom teachers) (more…)

Connecticut’s 23 Things Program

After a successful project for staff at the state library, the Connecticut State Library is taking their 23 things project statewide. Terrific! I spend a lot of time teaching in CT and am so excited to see this program going statewide.

The program kicked off February 9th, but there’s still time to join. They’re just into Thing 2 – Blogs. There will be a new topic every 2 weeks.

The program officially wraps up on July 27th. Complete all of the activities by July 27, 2009 to receive a continuing education certificate.

I hope tons of CT library staff take advantage of this terrific learning opportunity. As an unofficial CT librarian, I’m going to follow along and participate at this blog: Polly’s CT 23 Things.

Free Learning Opportunity

It’s not too late to join in the All Together Now Learning 2.0 program that started this week. It’s being led by Michael Stephens of Tame The Web.

Free, fun, you’ll learn a lot, you’ll connect with new colleagues. The program will cover 12 topics over the 6 weeks. Join in, have some fun and learn.

To sneak a peek and see who’s already signed up, check out the lists of participants.

p.s. This is being run by School Library Journal, but it’s not just for school librarians!

School Library Journal – Learning 2.0 Program

Hey there, all you school librarians!! Don’t miss this chance to participate in the School Library Journal’s 2.0  learning program and explore the world of 2.0 tools and learning.

The program, All Together Now: A 2.0 Learning Experience, is free and starts Monday July 21.  This is a self-guided program, but you’ll have lots of company to share your ideas and experiences with.  And Michael Stephens of Tame the Web will be offering guidance and advice throughout the program via a blog.

The program wraps up in early September, just in time for you to put your new skills and ideas to work during the school year.
