Social networking with Ning

Polly, Linda, Ken

The Capital Region BOCES School Library System Tech Camp is coming up soon! Tuesday and Wednesday July 10-11. Linda Fox, Ken Petersen and I met today to go over some final scheduling details.

Ken will be our evening speaker and will talk about using and creating social networks in school settings. One tool he’s planning to cover is Ning, a free space where you can create your own social network. Create a network for your library, classroom, school, anything you can think of.

You can also join existing groups like teacherlibrarian.ning.com and library20.ning.com, two popular professional groups where you can participate in discussions with colleagues far and wide and share your knowledge and experience as well.

If you’ve been thinking that social networking isn’t for you, check out the wide range of groups on ning.com. If you like, you can lurk for a while to see how things work. But do dive in and ‘get social’ after you find your footing – you’ve got lots of experience to share! Come on in, the water’s fine!
